25 Things First-Timers and Repeat Visitors Must See and Do in Vegas

September 6, 2023 by McKenzi Taylor

Las Vegas is world famous as a gambling mecca. But visitors don’t have to take chances on having a good time. Our list of must-see and -dos in Sin City is a sure bet!

Check out our curated lineup of must-see attractions, hidden gems and unforgettable experiences that will make your next trip to Las Vegas complete!

First-Timers

If you’re making your first trip to Vegas, then you may spend a good portion of your trip covering the basics. Granted, nothing about Las Vegas is basic, but every tourist destination has some things you really need to do before you can really claim that you’ve been there.

Strolling the Strip

Walking up and down Las Vegas Boulevard is a rite of passage. You haven’t been to Sin City if you haven’t done it. Mandatory photo-op stops include the Bellagio Fountains, The Caesars Palace porte co·chère, The Mirage Volcano (while it lasts) and, if you really want to stretch your legs, the Welcome to Las Vegas sign.

Along the way, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to play a few games of chance, have some cold drinks, shop ‘til you drop and get a bite to eat,  in and of-themselves all a part of the real-deal Vegas experience.

Visiting Fremont Street Experience

If you haven’t gotten in enough crazy people watching, or perused enough souvenir shops after a day or two of meandering the Strip, then head down to the older side of town to check out the Fremont Street Experience.

This tourist hot spot is like the midway at the state fair on steroids. It’s an over the top collection of casinos, bars, restaurants, light shows, musicians and street performers where the party lasts all night.

Dining & Drinking

Vegas is known for a lot of things, and the culinary scene is near the top of the list. First-timers in Vegas are amazed at all the options. Celebrity chefs are the name of the game at the top end, and there’s no shortage of stars: Bobby Flay, Gordon Ramsey, José Andrés, Lorena Garcia, Nobu Matsuhisa, Mr Chow, Giada De Laurentiis and so many more.

Chilling at the Pools

When it comes to sunshine, Vegas has it in spades. Hitting the pool is a must-do, especially if you’re visiting from the upper Midwest, the Northeast or England, where the sun hides behind rain clouds way too frequently. Whichever hotel or resort you’re staying at will have a pool. Be sure to use it!

Hitting the Clubs

When the sun goes down, the nightclubs heat up. Vegas has some of the most thrilling clubs on the planet, and if you’re a party all nighter, then be sure to make this a part of your trip. Top DJs from around the world have made Las Vegas their home. And pretty much every major sports league championship winning team comes to Las Vegas to celebrate at one of the Vegas clubs, including the latest NBA champs, the Denver Nuggets.

Casino Games and Race & Sports Books

Let’s also mention the obvious must-do. Las Vegas was built on gambling, first and foremost, even though it’s added to its entertainment offerings over the years.

Slots, poker, blackjack, pai gow, craps and roulette can be found all over town, and you might just be the next lucky player to hit it big. It happens all the time and would be a great way to celebrate your wedding anniversary, like a recent winner at Caesars Palace.

Now that sports betting is becoming more popular and more widely offered in the US, the industry is booming in Vegas more than ever. It doesn’t have to be a big event like the Super Bowl or March Madness to have some fun. Every gameday is a great day to place a wager and to root for your bets to cash. On the Strip, you should visit the iconic sportsbooks at the Westgate and at Caesars Palace, or check out the flashy newcomer at Circa in downtown Las Vegas.

Repeat & Frequent Visitors

Ok, now that we’ve covered the basics for the first-timers, let’s tell you about the deep cuts that locals have on repeat and returning visitors should add to their list of must see and dos.

The More Unusual

There may not be a more iconic visual representative of Las Vegas than the showgirl. Once a staple of showrooms up and down Las Vegas Boulevard, they have been a part of the city’s entertaining history for decades and still have a place in the Vegas universe.

You can celebrate the history of this Las Vegas mainstay at Grant Philipo’s Las Vegas Showgirl Museum. Tens of thousand of showgirl artifacts are on display there, including actual wardrobe pieces, sets and props, costume designs, film footage, historical documents and photos. This museum allows visitors to pay homage to the glamour and beauty of Las Vegas entertainment, as well as show business history from other parts of the world.

Slots machines aren’t the only amusing games with bells and whistles galore. The Pinball Hall of Fame is a fun destination where the games are playable and the stakes are lower. The history of this arcade staple is told through the machines in the collection and continues with every quarter you pump in.

Car enthusiasts should stop by the Carroll Shelby Heritage Center to pay tribute to one of the greatest car builders and designers of all time. The museum is free and open to the public during normal business hours. Self-guided and VIP behind the scenes tours are sure to get motor heads revved up.

Outdoor Exploration

A visually stunning part of the Vegas Valley, Red Rock Canyon is great for hikers, rock climbers and bikers. Photographers will have no lack of beautiful landscapes to capture, and the scenic drive in a rented convertible is an awesome way to spend an afternoon. Bring your camera!

The waters of the Colorado River fill the reservoir behind Hoover Dam and create the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. It’s the country’s first and largest national recreation area, offering visitors swimming, boating, hiking, cycling, camping and fishing. While you’re on your way to or from the lake, repeat Southern Nevada visitors may also want to spend some time in Boulder City. The historic town that built the dam has a number of things to see and do, too. Many outdoor outfitters can be found here, and there are lots of shops and restaurants. The people are friendly and offer plenty of living history lessons if you stop them to say “hello.”

Las Vegas’s summer respite for outdoor enthusiasts is Mt. Charleston. The temps atop the mountain are 15 to 30 degrees cooler and offer a cool spot to enjoy nature during the hottest times of the year. Hiking, mountain biking, disc golf and the chair lift are just a few of the summer activities available. It can also be a lot of fun in the winter because there’s a ski resort too!

Transportation Adventures

Helicopter rides are a great way to see the city from a new perspective. The major players are Papillon, Maverick and 5 Star. And you’ll get the best deal by booking directly with the operators. They all pledge to match or beat any third-party price you may find online.

All three offer a variety of packages, depending on what you want to see and the add ons you can’t live without. The starter rides, which offer a 10–15 minute flight over the Strip, are a pretty reasonable way to spend a hundred bucks.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum has free admission and also offers excursion train rides from its covered platform near Boulder City. If you want to upgrade your ride and join the engineer and the brakeman in the cab, it’s an easy add-on at just $35. The museum will soon offer a much improved guest experience with the addition of its new Visitor’s Center.

Museums & Exhibits

The National Atomic Testing Museum gives guests a comprehensive look at how the atomic age captivated the country. History buffs can explore the story of nuclear testing and its impact on popular culture. If you’ve just seen the smash hit Oppenheimer in theaters, then this museum will help tell you more of the story.

The Rita Deanin Abbey Art Museum celebrates the incredible career of the “most important unknown artist in Southern Nevada.” She personally designed the spaces at the Las Vegas museum that now bears her name. The prolific artist used many different mediums in her southwestern themed abstract art.

Architecture

Las Vegas might take its knocks for being a light on culture city, but don’t tell that to the folks at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts. Not only do they host a fantastic lineup of touring Broadway shows and nationally known musical acts, but they’ve also got one of the most architecturally interesting buildings in town. The art deco style theater oozes style and is a fantastic place to see if you’re into architecture.

The Mob Museum is another must-see and -do spot in Las Vegas. Yes, the museum itself is a big draw, but the building it’s housed in also has historical significance. The downtown Las Vegas museum’s neoclassical building was opened in 1933 as the US Post Office and Courthouse. Prior to opening as the museum in 2012, renovations restored many of the building’s historical features.

Golfers who are also into architecture should book a tee-time at Las Vegas National. The 18-hole course weaves its way through the Paradise Palms neighborhood, Las Vegas’s first master planned community. Homes here once belonged to some of Hollywood’s biggest stars including entertainers, mobsters and other members of the city’s social scene. Famous residents included Johnny Carson, Debbie Reynolds, Dionne Warwick, Phyllis Diller and Rip Taylor, just to name a few.

Tours

For its sheer vintage Vegas vibe, the Neon Museum offers the best tour in town. Guided tours are conducted by knowledgeable staff and last 45 minutes. It’s hard to call the Neon Museum a hidden gem because it’s one of the most popular attractions in town, but with everything else there is to do, visitors don’t always make it to the museum. That’s why we like to remind repeat visitors not to miss this must-see and do in Las Vegas. The Neon Museum gives photographers of all stripes one of the best photo ops in town.

The Hoover Damn tour is no joke even though the Griswolds sure had their laughs in the movie Vegas Vacation. The Guided Dam Tour gets you access to historic tunnels, a ride in the original elevator to the top of the dam, a view of the Colorado River through the inspection ventilation shaft, a stop at the 8 commercial generators in the Nevada Powerhouse and a look inside the 30 foot diameter penstock where you’ll feel the vibration created by water rushing through the pipe. There’s nothing funny about one of the engineering marvels of the modern world.

Views

Some of the best views of Las Vegas can be had from some very high vantage points. Head to the LINQ Promenade to ride the High Roller. It’s not just a ferris wheel, it’s an observation wheel — and the world’s second tallest at that! A smooth half-hour ride moves at a barely noticeable speed, so motion sickness isn’t a problem.

The Stratosphere lays claim to the title of the tallest freestanding observation tower in the United States and the second-tallest in the Western Hemisphere, surpassed only by the CN Tower in Toronto, Ontario. Located at the north end of the resort corridor on the Strip, the Strat also has amusement rides for guests with a bit of a daredevil streak in them.

The Legacy Club rooftop at Circa Casino is 60 floors up and delivers an elegant lounge with a panoramic view of the Downtown Las Vegas skyline. If thrill rides scare you at any speed, then this new bar might be a better choice.

The Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas also offers visitors top-notch views. It’s not as tall as the real thing in France, but it’s not a bad simulation and since there’s hardly ever any clouds in the desert, the view is rarely obscured.

This list of must-see and must-do in Las Vegas is in no way an exhaustive list, but we do hope it gets you started! If you’re looking for more, check out our sister blog’s entry for Exploring Vegas After Your Wedding: What to Do and See.

Conferencing in Sin City: A Guide to Surviving the Vegas Experience

June 9, 2023 by McKenzi Taylor

If you’re coming to Las Vegas for a conference or convention you need to make sure you’re ready for the experience. Your company chose you to represent them at your industry’s biggest showcase and you want to nail it.

You’ve come to the right place.

We’re going to give you a guide to surviving, and thriving at your upcoming Vegas conference. We’ll break this blog down into two sections; Before You Arrive and During The Show.

Plus there’s a bonus section on how to actually enjoy a bit of Vegas while you’re in town!

To Do Before You Arrive

When you think of Vegas, it’s inevitable that you’ll conjure up images of card games and casino games. Or maybe with all the professional sports teams now calling Las Vegas home, you’ll think about sports games. (GO KNIGHTS!)

But when it comes to conferences, preparation is the name of the game! Follow our pre-conference game plan so you can have a winning experience when the time comes.

Draw Up Your Playbook

Las Vegas is constantly becoming a bigger and better playground for business and pleasure travelers with new events and attractions being added all the time. If you’re planning on using some of them to grease up your clients, soften up your sales pitch or just blow off some steam while in America’s playground, then you better make sure you can get in.

Crowds are returning to pre-pandemic levels  and if you’re not in the starting lineup then you might be left riding the bench. Make your plans and get your reservations made now. For instance; TopGolf is a popular spot when a convention is in town, and even though it’s the biggest TopGolf facility in the country, it still fills up fast.

Think about it. Concerts sell out, night clubs have long lines, restaurants don’t have enough staff to open all the tables. Make sure you’re not shut out. Walk-ons rarely see any playing time, and you don’t want to be left off the roster.

Set Your Schedule

Having your plans made in advance goes for the work hours too. Each conference has its own lineup of side events – things like happy hours, meet and greets, panel discussions and demonstrations. If these are first-come first-served then you should jump on them early and get signed up as soon as they are announced. Organizers ask you to sign up for these sorts of things for a reason.

Put Together Your Team

It’s not likely you’re coming alone, but if you do, you’ll not have a chance to ever break away from your own booth to see the rest of the show. Bring a teammate or two so you can take turns. No one wants to play without enough players, and in the convention game there’s no such thing as a “too many men on the field” penalty.

Alternatively you can hire some local help. There are companies that provide temporary staff for all kinds of conference, trade show and convention needs. Skilled staffers are able to help you with greeting attendees, answering questions, demonstrating products or services lead generation and more.

Vegas Is an Away Game

Travel and transportation snarls can tank your company’s efforts if you aren’t thinking ahead. You’ll need a strategy for getting all your personnel, supplies, products, booth decorations and signage across the country and into the exhibit hall.

Taking your little traveling circus on the road can be a lot of work. The bigger of a show you’re putting on the more prep work it takes.

Elaborate booths are the norm in Vegas so make sure you’re keeping pace with your competition by giving your “A game” to the logistics. Book a van or truck if you need one or ship stuff ahead of time. In some cases you may be able to team up with a bigger player. See if anyone else is going to the same show as you are, and split the cost of hiring a freight company to haul your stuff to town.

Don’t let playing on the road be an excuse.

Engage with Your Fans

Don’t let all your efforts up until this point go to waste. Execute your pre-show marketing plan so that you can maximize your conference experience. Announcing you’ll be there and telling visitors and potential customers where to find you is the bare minimum.

And don’t wait till the last minute to do it either. Broadcast it on your social channels, send out direct mail or emails, and get your sales team to slip it into their conversations with clients and vendors well in advance. Building hype before the show will have more of the right people filling your arena on game day. Be your own cheerleader and throw your own pep rallies so that you can perform in the clutch once the conference kicks off.

Tips For During the Conference

Drink Plenty of Water and Bring Snacks

A few days in Vegas can feel like an eternity, and it’s not just because they don’t put any clocks in the casinos.

Your conference game day will likely begin early and finish late. And if you’re maximizing your time you may not have much of a hole in your schedule to escape to the concession stand. It might be your industry’s Super Bowl, and your conference very well may have booked Beyonce to perform, but there’s no halftime show where you can head to the locker room for a bite to eat and something to drink.

You’ve got to be on your game all day, for multiple days on end. Bring some water and snacks. That way you can at least nibble on something on the sidelines.

Layer Your Clothing

This goes for just about any business trip, not just for a conference in Vegas. Clearly it makes more sense in Philadelphia or Chicago where the elements can play a bigger factor, but even domed stadiums can be at the mercy of severe weather. In Vegas, it’s the summer heat you’ll have to deal with, as well as the air conditioning.

One minute you might be in a chilly convention hall where you might be sitting at a booth with too much piped in cooling, and the next you could be doing a long walk to your hotel room working up a sweat schlepping a load of boxes down a long corridor.

And if you gotta make your way outdoors in the sweltering heat to get to another property for lunch, then forget about it. If your business meeting turns into a trip to the nightclub for dancing, you certainly want to be able to peel off a cardigan to get your groove on.

Our advice is to wear layers so that you can always be comfortable.

Keep an Eye on the Clock

Stay in tune to the moving pieces of your business day, your calendar, your email, the time and everything else. You wouldn’t unplug while back at your world headquarters, so stay plugged in here too.

Business doesn’t stop just because you’re in Las Vegas. You know that to be a success at the office you’ve got to adapt to changes. Meetings get canceled or postponed. Locations get moved. Things happen, and the only constant is change.

Same goes for at a conference, especially in Vegas. Let other people lose track of time, you’ll look like the pro if you’re always paying attention.

BONUS: Making the Most of Vegas

If you’ve got a bit of free time while you’re in Vegas for a conference and are looking for a way to fill it other than by pumping money into a slot machine or lounging by the pool, then this bonus section is for you.

Sin City has a number of great attractions away from the resort corridor that many visitors will never see. Check ‘em out in this extra innings section!

Award winning museums include the The Mob Museum, The Neon Museum and the National Atomic Testing Museum. Advance tickets or reservations are highly recommended.

Good places for a stroll with galleries, shops, bars and restaurants include the Arts District, East Fremont Street and the Chinatown Mall.

If you’re visiting in the cooler months and want to get outside, but are short on time, try Sunset Park near the airport. Or if you’ve got more time, venture a little further to one of our favorites, Floyd Lamb Park in the northwest part of the valley. We also like the Springs Preserve because of its collection of exhibits, gardens and walking trails.

Play Ball!

That’s the end of the pep talk. We’ve coached you up as much as possible. Now it’s time for you to get out there and have a winning Vegas conference experience!

D*Face, 7th Street, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals D*Face, 7th Street, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

Mural by D*Face – 7th St. and Ogden Ave. This modern and unique mural was originally painted for the 2013 Life is Beautiful festival. The half skeletal looking man sitting in despair with a drink in front of him, very obviously in despair with the thought bubble reading “I gave her my heart and she left me for…” plays to everyone who has ever been in pain over losing their love to another. It’s sad and dark but also intriguing and relatable. Located just about 5 minutes from the Neon Museum, this mural makes for great photos. However, because of it being high off the ground, the detail would not be captured great in close-ups. Far-away shots, though, would be incredible.

Recommended for: Corporate Headshot Photography, Wedding Photography

Felipe Pantone, 7th Street, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

3D Mural by Felipe Pantone – 7th St. and Ogden Ave. Created for Life is Beautiful 2016, this piece exhibit’s Pantone’s original, contemporary style. The combination of geometric shapes and bright monochromatic colors make the shapes practically jump off the wall. His design is innovative and one-of-a-kind. Definitely a must see.

Dulk, TPM, 7th Street Mural, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

Mural by Dulk – 7th St. and Ogden Ave. Mythology meets Spanish flair, meets downtown Vegas in this 2016 Life is Beautiful mural. Featuring mechanical birds, flying bulls and a myriad of other fragmented creatures and imagery that make this mural seem like a dreamscape. Spanning the whole height of a parking structure, the mural is full of detail, color and vibrancy, making or a vivacity that mixes life and fantasy.

Full Moon, Ana Maria Ortiz, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

“Full Moon” Mural by Ana Maria Ortiz – 7th St. and Ogden Ave. Painted for the 2015 Life is Beautiful Festival, this mural by Puerto Rican artist Ana Maria Ortiz, is tender and gentler than her other featured work. There is a softness to it not seen in her 2013 piece. This mural tells a story that can only be interpreted by the emotions of those viewing it. A painting that is strong yet vulnerable, this is a masterpiece and a potentially perfect location to take amazing photos.

Bicicleta Sem Freio, Mural Guide, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

Mural by Bicicleta Sem Freio – 7th St. between Ogden Ave and Stewart. This Life is Beautiful piece by Brazilian trio Bicicleta Sem Freio makes skillful use of mainly primary colors.  Tropical and full of vibrant colors, this mural is flirtatious and tempting, making it a fun backdrop for great photos.

Mural by Edgar “Saner” Flores – 7th St. between Ogden Ave and Stewart. Bringing a bit of Mexican folk art to the downtown area, this piece, located on a rather drab motel, is dynamic, spirited, and bold.  A love story, complete with a beating heart between the two characters, this is a great mural for any couple to capture in the background of their own love story.

“Scratch and Win” by Ana Maria Ortiz -7th St. between Ogden and Stewart on the Commonwealth Building. Created in 2013 for Life is Beautiful, this mural features a bird-like representation appearing to be made mostly of metal, with two long skinny legs and is seemingly half bird, half machine.  Although parts of the mural (the legs) are at ground level, the bulk of the character is higher up off the ground, making far-away shots best.  The industriousness of this painting will compliment and play off the contrasting human softness and emotion identified in any photo captured.

“Maser Motel” by Maser – 7th St. at Stewart. Created for 2014 Life is Beautiful, artist Maser transformed the old Town Lodge Motel into something bright and bold.  From top to bottom, including the parking lot, this iscompletely unique.  Eye-catching to say the least, this can hardly be called a mural.  Rather it is a masterpiece that is both simplistic and grand in the most incredible way.  Taking a full 8 days, this complete transformation created a jewel from a blank, bland canvas.

ChorBoogie, Love is a Gamble...Jackpot!, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals ChorBoogie, Love is a Gamble...Jackpot!, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

“Love is a Gamble…Jackpot!!!” Mural by Chor Boogie – 7th St. between Ogden and Stewart Ave.  Created for the 2015 Life is Beautiful Festival, this mural is located on the back of the now vacant Town Lodge Motel. This piece is mostly black and white with only the “eyes of the city,” depicted in color.  Located just minutes from the Neon Museum, this mural is alive and full of energy. With the right angle, this mural could add a lot to any photo.

Apexer, 7th Street, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals Apexer, 7th Street, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals Apexer, 7th Street, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

Mural by Apexer – 7th St. North, just minutes from the Neon Museum. Created for the 2015 Life is Beautiful Festival, this mural of geometric bands weaving in and out of each other creates a piece that is huge, colorful and full of details. It makes a great spot for photos, and because it is at ground level and so large, both great close-up or far away photos can be taken.

Zio Ziegler, Cycle of Civilization, 7th Street, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

“The Cycle of Civilization” Mural by Zio Ziegler – 7th St. and Ogden. Created for the 2013 Life is Beautiful Festival and like the others it is just minutes from the famed Neon Museum. Black and white, with vibrant pops of color and a bright blue background, the color and detail throughout and from the ground up make for great photo opportunities from both a distance and up close.

Ever After, Lakawena, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

“Ever After” Mural by Lakawena – 7th St. near the Neon Museum. This piece has a colorful camouflage pattern and a bold black and white zig zag center with “ever after” centered and brightly highlighted. At ground level, this vibrant mural can be representative of the “ever after” that every couple works for and hopes to have, creating a perfect spot for great photos.

Alexis Diaz, TPM Mural Guide, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

Mural by Alexis Diaz’s – 7th St. near the Neon Museum. This 2013 Life is Beautiful piece features a huge snail carrying on its back a skull acting as a bird’s nest smoking a cigarette. This piece is made up of thousands of brushstrokes and took over a week to complete.  Intricate in design and very intriguing, this ground level mural is worth not only a visit but at least a few snapshots as well.

Love Forever, D*Face, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

“Love Forever” by D* Face – Place and 7th St. This masterpiece was created for 2014’s Life is Beautiful.  Although this mural mimics the same 80’s-esque, comic type character as in his 2013 piece, in this piece there is a certain sex appeal that is very obviously present.  Provocative, compelling and of great interest, this mural makes for great photo opportunities of many varieties.

Created for 2015’s Life is Beautiful, it features a scrawling “peace” in gold script across the wall of the old hotel where it is located. A statement piece, this mural highlights the sentiment that should replace violence.

“Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” by Ruben Sanchez – Las Vegas Blvd. and Fremont St.  Created for 2015’s Life is Beautiful, this cubist style painting uses colors associated with the desert to incredibly depict the offbeat, kooky main character in the 1998 film of the same name.  At ground level and full of life and energy, some great shots can be taken here.

Tristan Eaton, Fear no Fate, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals Tristan Eaton, Fear no Fate, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

Mural by Tristan Eaton – Fremont St. (between 6th St. and 7 th St.) Found on one side of the El Cortez’s parking structure this piece is a mix of mainly black, red, and yellow tones. This meaningful mural exudes classic Vegas.  It is adorned with the powerful message “Fear no Fate.”  The Vegas showgirl is donned with the quintessential headpiece, made famous by showgirls of old.  She is complete with feathers, dice, and casino chips.

Mark Drew, Linus Mural, Fremont Street, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

Mural by Mark Drew – Fremont St. (between 6th St. and 7 th St.)  This piece, created for 2016’s Life is Beautiful, can be seen the side of the El Cortez parking garage. The Australian artist created a mural that incorporates Linus, the likable Peanuts character that we all know and love and a Wu Tang Clan lyric, “Life as a shorty shouldn’t be so rough!” This mural brings about a touch of nostalgia and a smile to your face.

Vhils, Mural, Fremont, Casino, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

Mural by Vhils – near the El Cortez parking garage. This large beige, black and white portrait by Portugese artist Vhils has all the shadowing and shading that make this face jump off the wall.

Pixel Pancho, The Meaning, Fremont, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals Pixel Pancho, The Meaning, Fremont, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

“The Meaning” by Pixel Pancho – El Cortez. This mural, created for 2015’s Life is Beautiful, depicts life by way of two robots.  This piece is sweet and intimate but also thought-provoking.  Meant to inspire people to think about their reliance on and obsession with money and the fact that “we (do) not own this planet, we are a part (of it).”  Any couple could take away their own message from this mural and capture these feelings in incredible photos.

Shepard Fairey, Corporate Welfare

“Corporate Welfare” by Shepard Fairey – Fremont and 6th St.  Painted for the 2016 Life is Beautiful festival.  Taking up one side the Emergency Arts Building, this red, black, and white mural boasts a handful of money with the slogan “Be a Maker, Not a Taker.”  This mural was designed to “inspire us to take a closer look at the intricate connection between corporations and a non-transparent government in a questionable democracy.”  Certainly thought-provoking, this mural is one that makes a statement.

Fafi, Emergency Arts Building, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

Mural by Fafi – Fremont and 6th St.  This piece is painted on one side of the Emergency Arts Building for 2016’s Life is Beautiful. In this piece, French artist Fafi shows the power of women. Her mural features her trademark Fafinette characters. These characters are tough, and with a bit of sass and attitude, this colorful, all-girl mural is eye-catching.

D*Face, Plaza Hotel, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals D*Face, Plaza Hotel, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

Mural by D*Face – Freemont and Main St. Located high above the downtown area atop the Plaza Hotel & Casino, this mural features a  larger-than-life damsel in distress. Akin to those you would see in a comic book and reminiscent of his other works, it is complete with the skeletal element.  However, unlike his other works, this one is lacking any captions, leaving meanings and thoughts completely up to the spectator. Because of the location of this mural, creativity with photos would need to be employed. However, because of the modern twist to the classic comic horror, this particular mural is one worth photographing.

Mural by Shepard Fairey – Freemont and Main St.  On the north side of the Plaza Hotel & Casino is this massive 18-story mural.  Mainly red and black, this piece plays to Vegas by incorporating the colors seen on the roulette wheel.  Inclusive of several images, including playing card symbols and the Eye of Providence with a single tear drop holding in it the planet earth, this incredible mural, despite holding significant details, is open to interpretation by each individual spectator.

Stewart Avenue Wall Murals in Las Vegas

  • Martin Whatson
  • ROA’s “Horned Toad”
  • Bezt

Martin Whatson, Cortez Parking Garage, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals Martin Whatson, Cortez Parking Garage, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

Murals by Martin Whatson – Stewart between 7th St. and 8th St. Norwegian artist Whatson painted two 4-story murals on the sides of a parking garage. One side depicts a man kneeling in front of a wall of graffiti while the other side features a hand unveiling the same graffiti wall.  The two pieces seek to make one wonder which is the wrongdoing, the graffiti itself or the threat of covering self-expression.  Colorful yet subdued, this is truly a powerful piece that stands out among many.

“Horned Toad” by ROA – 598 Stewart Ave.  Designed originally for Life is Beautiful.  In the artist’s trademark monochrome style, the only color present is the bright red blood shooting from the eye. It is simple and clear-cut, yet full of detail and life. This mural is an exceptional example of the talent that is seen throughout downtown Vegas.

Mural by Betz – Stewart Ave. This 10-story mural depicts a boy asleep in a church pew with simulated stained glass behind. Full of detail, this mural mimics the intricacies that would be found in a window of an old, extraordinary church. The ancestral idea of good against evil which has been known for thousands of years is depicted in this epic piece.  It confronts the long-standing battle that man continues to face, one of love versus hate, good versus bad, forgiveness versus eternal damnation.  What better and ironic location to showcase this ethereal and spiritual piece than the contrasting “Sin City.”

More Las Vegas Wall Art

  • Cyrcle’s “Faith! Courage! Power! Growth!”
  • Borondo “Corner”
  • Fintan Magee
  • The Frank Sinatra

The Frank Sinatra Mural – 1441 South Las Vegas Boulevard. A Las Vegas icon and staple of our city’s yesteryears, the crooner is depicted larger than life in the black and white piece. Located at the northern end of The Strip, adjacent to the “Welcome to Downtown Las Vegas” sign and just minutes from the Neon Museum, this mural is an incredible sight and one that is perfect for photo ops. One benefit about this location is the fact that it’s at ground level, so taking pictures in front of it is entirely possible.

“Faith! Courage! Power! Growth!” by Cyrcle – 206 N. 3rd St. Created for the 2nd annual Life is Beautiful this piece is located on the Downtown Grand’s valet parking structure. It is simplistic in nature both in color and imagery. This duo’s mural combines the orange strike-through text, a style typical of them. With the text is an outline of a transparent male, upside down and grasping what appears to be a discus. Great about this mural, and many others nearby, is that it’s relatable and thought-provoking, inspiring and uplifting. This is a mural that is powerful and full of strength. This piece would lend itself well to an evocative and moving photo.

Corner, Borondo, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

“Corner” by Borondo – Downtown. Created for Life is Beautiful, this mural occupies the corner of a downtown parking garage. Seen head-on is a somber looking man dressed in disheveled clothing, who looks dirty and rumpled. However, when looked at it from a different angle, a portion of the piece is then hidden. A mural that is captivating and moving, this one is a piece that makes a statement.

Fintan Magee, Ogden Ave, Taylored Photo Memories, Las Vegas Murals

Murals by Fintan Magee – Ogden Ave. between 7th St. and 8th St. Painted for Life is Beautiful 2014, this 2-wall mural features a man on one wall and a woman on the other. Both are partially covered by blankets, holding umbrellas, and surrounded by white rabbits. Facing each other, together yet alone, this double mural is intimate, beautiful, compelling, and definitely photo worthy.

General Tips

Casino rules & regulations

While it’s technically not “illegal” to photograph in the casinos and on the grounds of the casinos it’s frowned upon and we have been asked on more than one occasion to leave the property. We normally just take a chance if our clients really want a specific casino location, but we try to sway people away from a casino setting if possible!

These boots were made for walking

The way we photograph, we really try to get to as many locations and photo spots as we can with our given amount of time. With that said, please plan to bring comfortable shoes. Walking around in Red Rock, Nelson or even worse the Strip in high heels will waste our time together. Please bring some comfy shoes for walking and you will have time to slip on others in between sets.

Fees, permits & restrictions

State Parks, National Parks and many other venues in Las Vegas have fees or permits that need to be acquired. Please let us know ahead of time if you would like to photograph at any of these locations.

Weather

Las Vegas has a reputation for being a hot place and it’s true. The summer temps sore at over 100 degrees for most of the summer months. The winter months are also much colder than many expect, so please plan accordingly and always bring water on the summer sessions.
